The University of Hawaii has announced the holders of the first two Victor and Peggy Brandstorm Pavel Endowed Professors in Medicine. The professorships were endowed from part of a $11.5 million estate gift from the Pavels.

Kamal Masaki is chair of the department of geriatric medicine. She has been on the faculty of the university’s John A. Burns School of Medicine since 1991.

Christina Bell has been serving as an associate professor of geriatric medicine at the university. She holds a bachelor’s degree, a medical degree, and a Ph.D. in clinical research from the University of Hawaii.

Dr. Masaki stated that “we are very grateful to the Pavel family for this extremely generous gift that will help us train the next generation of geriatricians and researchers in aging.”
