Pamela Edington Appointed the Fifth President of Dutchess Community College in Poughkeepsie, New York

PamelaEdingtonresizePamela Edington has been selected as the fifth president of Dutchess Community College in Poughkeepsie, New York. The college enrolls about 10,500 students and women make up 55 percent of the student body.

Dr Edington was provost and dean of academic affairs at Norwalk Community College in Connecticut. Before joining the staff at Norwalk Community College nine years ago, she worked for 19 years at Middlesex Community College in Massachusetts.

“I am honored to be the next president of Dutchess Community College,” said Dr. Edington. “I look forward to working with the college’s faculty, students, staff and Board of Trustees, as well as its many alumni, friends and supporters, to build on its tradition of promoting access, affordability and academic excellence.” Her top goal is to increase the number of entering students who earn an associate’s degree. According to the U.S. Department of Education’s latest data, the graduation rate at the college is 24 percent.

Dr. Edington is a graduate of the College of St. Benedict in St. Joseph, Minnesota. She earned a master’s degree in sociology at the University of Notre Dame and a doctorate in educational policy, research, and administration from the University of Massachusetts.
