Purdue University Names Women as Leaders of Two of Its Schools

Purdue University in West Lafayette, Indiana, has announced the appointments of two women who will both lead academic units.

Marifran Mattson was named head of the Brian Lamb School of Communication at the university. She has been serving as interim director of the school since July 2013 and is a professor of communication at the university. Dr. Mattson is a graduate of St. Norbert College in De Pere, Wisconsin. She holds a master’s degree from Marquette University in Milwaukee, and a Ph.D. from Arizona State University.

JoAnn Miller is the new leader of the School of Interdisciplinary Studies at Purdue. She will also serve as associate dean for engagement at the university. Dr. Miller is a professor of sociology at the university. Professor Miller is a graduate of Keene State College in New Hampshire. She holds a master’s degree from the College of William and Mary in Williamsburg, Virginia, and a Ph.D. in sociology from the University of Massachusetts.
