New Women Deans at Six Colleges and Universities

Charlotte H. JohnsonCharlotte H. Johnson was named dean of students at Scripps College in Claremont, California. When Dr. Johnson takes office on August 1, she will also hold the title of vice president for student affairs. Since 2011, she has been serving as dean of the college at Dartmouth College in Hanover, New Hampshire. Previously, she was vice president and dean at Colgate University and assistant dean for student affairs at the University of Michigan Law School.

Dean Johnson was valedictorian of her graduating class at the University of Detroit, where she majored in psychology. She earned a juris doctorate at the University of Michigan.

Karol Dean was appointed dean of the School of Social and Behavioral Sciences at Mercy College in Dobbs Ferry, New York. Since 2012 she has served as dean of the College for Women at Chatham University in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Previously, Dr. Dean was professor of psychology and assistant provost for institutional assessment and faculty development at Mount Saint Mary’s College in Los Angeles.

Dr. Dean is a graduate of Boston University. She holds a master’s degree and a Ph.D. in personality psychology from the University of California at Los Angeles.

Robin-RinehartRobin Rinehart was named dean of the faculty at Lafayette College in Easton, Pennsylvania. She has been a member of the college’s faculty since 1991 and has been serving as a professor of religious studies. Her latest book is Debating the Dasam Granth (Oxford University Press, 2011).

Professor Rinehart holds a bachelor’s degree in comparative religion and a master’s degree in South Asian studies from the University of Washington. She earned a Ph.D. in religious studies from the University of Pennsylvania.

karen-pugliesiKaren Pugliesi was named dean of the College of Social and Behavioral Sciences at Northern Arizona University in Flagstaff. For the past decade, Dr. Pugliesi has been vice provost for academic affairs at the university. She also was serving as dean of the University College.

Dr. Pugliesi is a summa cum laude graduate of Utah State University. She earned a master’s degree and a Ph.D. in sociology from Washington State University.

Elizabeth DavisElizabeth B. Davis was appointed dean of the School of Management at the University of San Francisco, effective August 1. She has been serving as dean of the College of Business and professor of management at the University of New Haven in Connecticut.

Dr. Davis is a graduate of Barnard College in New York City. She earned a Ph.D. in strategic management from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania.

AllysonGreenAllyson Green was promoted to dean of the Tisch School of the Arts at New York University. She has been associate dean since 2012 and serves as a full professor in the department of art and public policy. Before joining NYU in 2012, Green was a professor of theatre and dance at the University of California at San Diego.

Professor Green is a graduate of Washington University in St. Louis. She earned a master of fine arts degree in choreography from the University of Wisconsin at Milwaukee.
