In Memoriam: Eliza Timberlake Dresang, 1941-2014

Eliza Timberlake Dresang, who held endowed professorships at Florida State University and the University of Washington, died late last month in Seattle. She was 72 years old.

A native of Atlanta, Dr. Dresang was a graduate of Emory University. She earned a master of library science degree at the University of California at Los Angeles and a Ph.D. in library science at the University of Wisconsin at Madison. Dr. Dresang was an expert in children’s and young adult literature. She was the author of Radical Change: Books for Youth in the Digital Age (H.W. Wilson, 1999)

Dr. Dresang worked for 16 years as a librarian and administrator for the public school district in Madison before joining the faculty at Florida State University in 1996. In 2004 she was appointed to the Eliza Atkins Gleason Professorship at Florida State. Four years later, Dr. Dresang joined the faculty of the University of Washington as the inaugural Beverly Cleary Professor of Children and Youth Services.
