In Memoriam: Anouchka Mihaylova, 1952-2014

Anouchka Mihaylova, a project scientist in the department of bioengineering at the University of California, San Diego, died on May 17 after being struck by a hit-and-run driver while walking to her favorite restaurant with her husband. She was 62 years old.

Dr. Mihaylova was a member of the Cardiac Mechanics Research Group at the university for almost 15 years. Her research involved the creation of mathematical models that illustrated the electrical and mechanical function of heart cells.

Dr. Mihaylova held a master’s degree in physics and a Ph.D. in molecular biology and genetics from Sofia University in Bulgaria.
