Four Women Who Are Stepping Down From Their Higher Education Posts

Dorothy K. Robinson, vice president and general counsel at Yale University, is retiring in August as the university’s chief legal counsel after 29 years on the job. She will stay on in a consulting role to ease the transition of her successor. Robinson first joined the legal staff at Yale in 1978.

Robinson is a graduate of Swarthmore College, where she majored in economics. She earned her law degree at the University of California at Berkeley.

_MG_2911.dngLinda Abriola, dean of the School of Engineering at Tufts University in Medford, Massachusetts, has announced that she will step down at the conclusion of the 2014-15 academic year. She was appointed dean in 2003. When she gives up her role as dean, Dr. Abriola will remain on the faculty as a professor of civil and environmental engineering.

Dr. Abriola is a graduate of Drexel University in Philadelphia. She holds two master’s degrees and a Ph.D. in civil engineering from Princeton University in New Jersey.

callahanCarolyn Callahan has announced that she will step down from her post as dean of the College of Business at the University of Louisville and take a leave of absence from the university for “personal and family reasons.” Dr. Callahan was the first woman and the first African American to serve as dean of the business school. She will continue to hold the Brown-Forman Endowed Chair in accounting at the business school. When she is able to return, she has agreed to accept the position of associate provost.

Before coming to the University of Louisville, Dr. Callahan was director of the School of Accountancy at the University of Memphis. She is a graduate of Ohio Northern University in Ada and holds a master’s degree from Bowling Green State University in Ohio and a Ph.D. in business administration from Michigan State University.

tyreeElizabeth Tyree was named associate professor emerita at he University of North Dakota School of Nursing. Dr. Tyree is a graduate of Marquette University in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. She earned her pediatric nurse practitioner certificate at the University of Colorado. Dr. Tyree holds a master of public health degree from the University of Michigan and a Ph.D. in nursing from Loyola University in Chicago.
