Fifteen Women in New Administrative Roles at U.S. Colleges and Universities

Ann Goodwin was named vice president of college advancement at Connecticut College in New London, effective July 1. She has been serving as associate vice president for development at Wesleyan University in Middletown, Connecticut. She has been on the staff at Wesleyan since 1995.

Goodwin is a graduate of Wesleyan University, where she majored in English and was a member of the swim team. She holds a law degree from Boston University.

Patricia Frilot Cottonham was appointed vice president for student affairs at the University of Louisiana at LaFayette. She has been interim vice president for student affairs since 2012 and interim dean of students since 2009.

Cottenham joined the university’s staff in 1984 as a financial aid counselor. She later was director of financial aid and associate dean of students. Cottenham is a graduate of the University of Louisiana at Lafayette, holds a master’s degree in rehabilitation counseling and is currently working toward a doctorate in higher education leadership.

Deborah E. Trautman was appointed chief executive officer of the American Association of Colleges of Nursing. She has been serving as the executive director of the Center for Health Policy and Healthcare Transformation at Johns Hopkins University Hospital. She also holds a faculty appointment in the Johns Hopkins University School of Nursing.

Dr. Trautman is a graduate of West Virginia Wesleyan College in Buckhannon. She holds a master’s degree in nursing from the University of Pittsburgh and a Ph.D. in health policy from the University of Maryland.

Tracey Sheetz was appointed director of the Office of Graduate Admissions and Recruitment at West Virginia University. She had been serving as manager of outreach and enrollment for the School of Leadership and Professional Advancement at Duquesne University in Pittsburgh.

Sheetz is a graduate of Edinboro University of Pennsylvania. She holds an MBA from Seton Hill University in Greensburg, Pennsylvania, and this spring will earn a doctorate in instructional management and leadership from Robert Morris University.

Jacqueline Lambiase was named interim director of the School of Strategic Communication at Texas Christian University in Fort Worth. She is an associate professor of journalism at the university.

Dr. Lambiase holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees from the University of North Texas in Denton. She earned a Ph.D. in rhetoric and composition from the University of Texas at Arlington.

Karla Leeper will be the new chief of staff for the president of Georgia Regents University in Augusta. She has been serving as professor of communication studies and vice president of board and executive affairs at Baylor University in Waco, Texas. Dr. Leeper joined the faculty at Baylor in 1992 as an assistant professor of communication studies.

Dr. Leeper is a graduate of the University of Iowa. She holds a master’s degree and a Ph.D. in rhetoric and argumentation from the University of Kansas.

Gwen McCausland was appointed director of the South Dakota State Agricultural Heritage Museum on the campus of South Dakota State University. She was marketing coordinator for the Historical and Cultural Society of Clay County in Moorhead, Minnesota. Earlier she was curator of collections for the Hubbard Museum of the American West in Ruidoso Downs, New Mexico.

McCausland is a graduate of North Dakota State University and holds a master’s degree from Cardiff University in Wales.

Nettie Daniels was named executive director of the office of institutional effectiveness and assessment at the University of Wisconsin-Platteville. She has been serving as associate vice president in the office of institutional planning, assessment, and effectiveness at Grambling State University in Louisiana.

Daniels is a graduate of Alcorn State University in Mississippi.

Kaaren Williamsen was named Title IX coordinator at Swarthmore College in Pennsylvania, effective July 7. Currently, she is director of the Gender and Sexuality Center and deputy coordinator of Title IX at Carleton College in Northfield, Minnesota.

Williamsen is a graduate of Gustavus Adolphus College in Saint Peter, Minnesota. She holds master’s degrees from the University of Minnesota and Minnesota State University and is currently enrolled in a doctoral program at the University of Minnesota.

Jessica Favors is the new director of procurement at South Carolina State University in Orangeburg. She was a procurement officer for the Charleston County School District in South Carolina.

Favors is a summa cum laude graduate of Southern Wesleyan University in Central, South Carolina, where she majored in business administration.

Kathryn Andolsek was appointed assistant dean for premedical education for the School of Medicine at Duke University. In this role she will serve as the liaison between pre-med programs and the medical school. She is the associate director of graduate medical education at Duke and has been on the faculty for 30 years.

Dr. Andolsek holds a bachelor’s degree, a master of public health degree, and a medical doctorate, all from Northwestern University.

Carla Peterson was named director of the Maggie Allesee National Center for Choreography at Florida State University in Tallahassee. She has been the artistic director of Manhattan’s New York Live Arts. Earlier, she was the artistic director of the New York City Dance Theater Workshop.

Peterson is a graduate of the University of Illinois. She holds a master of fine arts degree from Ohio State University.

Sandra Mitchell was appointed associate vice president for diversity and inclusion at the University of North Dakota. She will begin her new job on July 14. She has been serving as chief diversity officer at Regis University in Denver, Colorado.

Mitchell holds a bachelor’s degree in psychology and a master’s degree in higher education from Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa.

Julia Adams was appointed master of Calhoun College at Yale University. She is a professor of sociology and deputy provost for the sciences and for faculty development and diversity at Yale. Dr. Adams has been on the Yale faculty since 2004.

Professor Adams is the author of The Familial State: Ruling Families and Merchant Capitalism in Early Modern Europe (Cornell University Press, 2005). She is a graduate of Reed College in Portland, Oregon, and holds a master’s degree and a Ph.D. from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.

Annessa Carlisle is the new associate director of alumni communications at Wayne State University in Detroit. She was executive director of marketing and public relations at Washtenaw Community College in Ann Arbor, Michigan.

Carlisle is a graduate of Wayne State University, where she majored in journalism. She holds a master’s degree in advertising from Michigan State University. She is the author of Bob-Lo: An Island in Troubled Waters (Momentum Publishing, 2005).
