Deborah Miranda Wins IPPY Award for Her Book on California Indians

Miranda, professor of English at Washington and Lee University in Lexington, Virginia, has won the gold medal in the Independent Publisher Book Awards for autobiography/memoir in the family legacy category. Professor Miranda was honored with the IPPY Award for her book Bad Indians: A Tribal Memoir (Heyday, 2013). The book offers a history of California Indians and a memoir of her own experiences as a member of the Ohlone Costanoan Esselen tribe.

Professor Miranda has been on the faculty at Washington and Lee since 2004. She is a graduate of Wheelock College in Boston Massachusetts. Dr. Miranda holds a master’s degree and a Ph.D. in English from the University of Washington.
