The New Provost and Dean of Faculty at Smith College

RoweSmith College, the highly rated liberal arts college for women in Northampton, Massachusetts, has chosen Katherine Anandi Rowe as its next provost and dean of faculty. She will take office on July 1.

Currently, Dr. Rowe is a professor of English at Bryn Mawr College in Pennsylvania. She joined the Bryn Mawr faculty in 1998 and was promoted to full professor in 2004. From 1992 to 1998, she was an assistant professor of English at Yale University.

Professor Rowe is the author of Dead Hands: Fictions of Agency, Renaissance to Modern (Stanford University Press, 1999) and co-author of New Wave Shakespeare on Screen (Cambridge University Press, 2007).

A graduate of Carleton College in Northfield, Minnesota, Dr. Rowe earned a master’s degree and a Ph.D. in English and American literature from Harvard University.
