AAUW Names Seven Colleges and Universities That Empower Women

aauwThe American Association for University Women has identified seven colleges and universities that the group says empower women. The AAUW says that these seven schools are “making the world a more equitable place for women.”

Here are the seven schools and a brief explanation of why they were included:

1. Boston College for sponsoring its annual Love Your Body Week, promoting healthy body image among students.

2. George Mason University in Fairfax, Virginia, for creating the Women in Business Initiative that has the goal of increasing the number of women in business.

3. North Dakota State University for creating the Pregnancy and Young Mother Support Group on campus.

4. Texas Tech University in Lubbock for its efforts to address sexual assault on university campuses.

5. The University of Maryland College Park for its efforts to increase the number of women in STEM fields by establishing a living/learning community on campus for first-year engineering students.

6. The University of Nebraska in Lincoln for sponsoring the Latina Youth Leadership Conference.

7. The University of Southern California in Los Angeles was chosen for its establishment of a support group for LGBTQ students who are involved in fraternities and sororities.
