Widener University Names Two Women to Dean Positions

Widener_University-Harrisburg_Campus_1380031Widener University in Wilmington, Delaware, has announced the appointment of deans to three of its eight schools and colleges. Two of the new deans are women.

Dzurek WebLaura Dzurec was appointed dean of the School of Nursing at the university. She has been serving as a professor in the College of Nursing at Kent State University in Ohio, where she served as dean from 2006 to 2013. Earlier in her career, Dr. Dzurec was dean of the School of Nursing at the University of Connecticut.

Professor Dzurec is a graduate of the University of Connecticut. She holds a master’s degree from Ohio State University and a Ph.D. in nursing from Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland.

TOSHIBA Exif JPEGSharon Meagher was named dean of the College of Arts and Sciences. Since 2009, she has been chair of Latin American studies and women’s studies at the University of Scranton in Pennsylvania. She is completing work on a book entitled Philosophical Streetwalking: Grounding Philosophy in Public Life.

Dr. Meagher is a graduate of Boston College, where she majored in philosophy and sociology. She holds a Ph.D. in philosophy from Stony Brook University of the State University of New York system.
