Smith College Launches a New Online Journal, Global Impressions

smith-thumbSmith College, the highly rated liberal arts educational institution for women in Northampton, Massachusetts, had announced the creation of a new student-run online journal focusing on study abroad and cross-cultural experiences. The new journal, Global Impressions, will feature short essays by Smith College students, faculty, staff, and alumni on what it means to be a global citizen. The journal’s editors are seeking submissions which include any foreign or cross-cultural connections that have helped the authors learn or grow.

The journal’s mission statement says that Global Impressions “offers a public forum for Smith students and alumnae to showcase short, nonfiction reflective essays on their intercultural and interlinguistic encounters,  experiences, misunderstandings and epiphanies abroad and at home. The journal aims to foster critical thinking about what living in a culturally and linguistically diverse world means today.”

Laura Itzkowitz, an alumna who is a member of the editorial board, stated, “As a Smith alumna who spent my junior year abroad in Paris and lived in Rome for two years after graduation, I am particularly excited to share Global Impressions with the Smith community.”

The plan is for Global Impressions to publish two issues each year.
