Four Women Taking on New Teaching Roles

haynes_audreyAudrey Haynes was appointed to a Josiah Meigs Distinguished Teaching Professorship at the University of Georgia. The post is given in recognition of superior instruction at the undergraduate and graduate levels. Professor Haynes joined the university faculty in 1999 and has been serving as an associate professor of political science.

Dr. Haynes holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees from the University of Georgia. She earned a Ph.D. in political science at Ohio State University.

StewartGay Stewart will join the faculty at West Virginia University this summer as the Eberly Professor of STEM Education in the department of physics and astronomy. She will also serve in a leadership position for the STEM Education Mountain of Excellence at the university.

Professor Stewart currently is a professor of physics at the University of Arkansas. She holds a Ph.D. in physics from the University of Illinois.

SKLeeSoyeon Kate Lee will join the faculty at the University of Cincinnati Conservatory of Music this fall as an assistant professor of music in piano. She currently serves on the faculty at the City University of New York.

Lee, a native of South Korea, won the prestigious Naumburg International Piano Competition in 2010. She holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees from the Juilliard School in New York.

Kelley BenhamKelley Benham French was named professor of practice at the Indiana University Media School. She will begin her new teaching role on August 1. French is a longtime writer and editor at the Tampa Bay Times. In 2013, she was a finalist for the Pulitzer Prize for her series about the premature birth of her daughter.

French is a graduate of the University of Florida, where she majored in journalism and political science. She holds a master’s degree in journalism from the University of Maryland.
