Three Women Promoted to Associate Professor and Granted Tenure at Bowdoin College

bowdoin_college_sealBowdoin College, the highly rated liberal arts educational institution in Brunswick, Maine, has announced the promotion of five faculty members from assistant to associate professor. All five were granted tenure. Three of the five faculty member receiving promotions are women. The promotions are effective on July 1.

CelisNadia V. Celis was promoted to associate professor of romance languages. She has served on the Bowdoin College faculty since 2007. Dr Celis is a member of the executive council of the Caribbean Studies Association and teaches courses on Latin American literature. Dr. Celis is a graduate of the University of Cartagena in Colombia, She earned a master’s degree and a Ph.D. at Rutgers University.

dubeDanielle H. Dube, a member of the Bowdoin faculty since 2007, will be an associate professor of chemistry and biochemistry. She teaches courses in chemical biology, biochemistry, and drug discovery. Dr. Dube is a graduate of Cornell University in Ithaca, New York, where she majored in biology. She holds a Ph.D. in chemistry from the University of California at Berkeley.

selingerVyjayanthi Ratnam Selinger was named an associate professor of Asian studies. Her research focuses on Japanese language and literature. She is the author of Authorizing the Shogunate: Ritual and Material Symbolism in the Literary Construction of Warrior Order (Brill, 2013). Dr. Selinger is a graduate of Jawaharlal Nehru University in India. She holds a master’s degree from Harvard University and a Ph.D. from Cornell University.
