Three Women Appointed to Endowed Chairs

kavenyCathleen Kaveny was appointed the Darald and Juliet Libby Professor at Boston College in Chestnut Hill, Massachusetts. She will hold a joint appointment in the law school and the department of theology. She was the John P. Murphy Foundation Professor of Theology at the University of Notre Dame. She had been on the faculty at Notre Dame since 1995.

Professor Kaveny is the author of the award-winning book, Law’s Virtues: Fostering Autonomy and Solidarity in American Society (Georgetown University Press, 2012). Dr. Kaveny is a summa cum laude graduate of Princeton University. She holds a law degree and a Ph.D. from Yale University. Professor Kaveny is the incoming president of the Society of Christian Ethics.

RachelPepperRachel Pepper was named the inaugural holder of the William D. and Flora McCormick Chair in Biophysics at the University of Puget Sound in Tacoma, Washington. She has been serving as a Miller Institute postdoctoral research fellow at the University of California at Berkeley. She will begin her new role this fall.

Dr. Pepper is a magna cum laude graduate of Brown University, where she majored in biophysics. She was selected as a Marshall Scholar and earned a degree in physics at Cambridge University in England. She  holds a Ph.D. in physics from Harvard University.

robertaklatzkyRoberta Klatzky was appointed to the Charles J. Queenan Professorship of Psychology at Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh. Dr. Klatzky joined the faculty at the university in 1993 after teaching at the University of California at Santa Barbara for more than two decades. She chaired the psychology department at Carnegie Mellon from 1993 to 2003.

Professor Klatzky received a B.S. in mathematics from the University of Michigan and a Ph.D. in cognitive psychology from Stanford University.
