New Administrative Roles for Nine Women in Higher Education

Harriet Frink DavisHarriet Frink Davis was named vice chancellor for institutional advancement at North Carolina Central University in Durham. She was associate vice chancellor for development at Fayetteville State University in North Carolina. Earlier in her career, Dr. Davis was assistant vice president for corporate relations at Hampton University in Virginia.

Dr. Davis holds bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral degrees, all from North Carolina A&T State University in Greensboro.

Kristine AndersonKristine Anderson is the new director on online education at the University of Maryland Eastern Shore in Princess Anne. She was director of online and distance education at Mount Aloysius College in Cresson, Pennsylvania.

Dr. Anderson holds a bachelor’s degree in communications media, a master’s degree in adult education and communication technology and a doctorate in curriculum and instruction, all from Indiana University of Pennsylvania.

Dr. BenjaminMary E. Benjamin was named the inaugural vice chancellor for research at the University of Arkansas Pine Bluff. She has served the university since 1992 as vice chancellor for academic affairs.

Dr. Benjamin is a graduate of Tuskegee University in Alabama, where she majored in social studies. She holds a master’s degree in sociology from Atlanta University and a Ph.D. in sociology from Mississippi State University.

1harrelsonCheryl Harrelson was named vice president for university advancement and president of the New Mexico State University Foundation. She will assume her new duties on May 1. She has been serving as the associate vice president for annual and special gifts, stewardship, and special events for the Washington State University Foundation. Harrelson is the former associate vice president for advancement information services at James Madison University in Harrisonburg, Virginia. She also served as director of advancement services for North Carolina A&T State University in Greensboro.

Harrelson is a graduate of the University of California at Los Angeles. She holds a master’s degree in education from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro and a master’s degree in computer information systems from the University of Phoenix.

Virginia_Evans_03HR_CGVirginia Evans is the new chief information officer at the University of Virginia. She has been serving in the position on an interim basis since July 1. Previously, she was the associate vice president for information technology services at the University of Virginia.

Evan is a graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She holds a master’s degree in management information systems from the University of Virginia’s McIntire School of Commerce.

Taimi OTaimi-Olsenlsen was promoted to director of the Tennessee Teaching and Learning Center at the University of Tennessee at Knoxville. She was the associate director of the center.

Dr. Olsen came to the University of Tennessee in 2009. Previously, she served for 12 years as a professor of English at Tusculum College in Greeneville, Tennessee. Dr. Olsen is a graduate of Guilford College in North Carolina and holds a master’s degree and a Ph.D. in American and twentieth century literature from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Dr. Olsen is the author of Transcending Space: Architectural Places in Works by Henry David Thoreau, E. E. Cummings and John Barth (Bucknell University Press, 2000).

ALz AssocKimberly Glassman was appointed associate dean for partnership innovation at the New York University College of Nursing. She has been serving as the senior vice president for patient care services and chief nursing officer at the New York University Langone Medical Center.

Dr. Glassman joined the staff at the medical center in 1978 and has taught at the College of Nursing since 2007. A graduate of Hunter College in New York City, Dr. Glassman holds a master’s degree and a Ph.D. from the New York University College of Nursing.

BrysonBarbara Bryson was named the inaugural vice president for strategic planning and analysis at the University of Arizona. She has been serving as associate vice president for facilities engineering and planning at Rice University in Houston.

Dr. Bryson is a graduate of the University of Texas at Arlington. She holds an MBA from the University of Miami and an educational doctorate from the University of Pennsylvania.

blakeCatherine Blake was appointed executive director of the new Sales Center of Excellence, a professional development program for undergraduate students at the University of New Hampshire. Blake is an adjunct professor in the Peter T. Paul College of Business and Economics at the university.

Blake is a graduate of Harvard University and holds an executive MBA from the Harvard University Extension School.
