In Memoriam: Ann Atherton Hertzler, 1935-2014

annhertzlerAnn Hertzler, professor emerita of human nutrition, foods, and exercise in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences at Virginia Tech,  died on February 6 in Wilmington, North Carolina, at the age of 78.

Professor Hertzler earned a bachelor’s degree in home economics education at Pennsylvania State University. She earned a master’s degree in nutrition from Drexel University in Philadelphia and a Ph.D. in nutrition from Cornell University in Ithaca, New York. After serving as an extension specialist at the University of Missouri, Dr. Hertzler joined the faculty at Virginia Tech in 1980. In addition to teaching, she served as a Virginia Cooperative Extension specialist during her 20-year career at Virginia Tech. Dr. Hertzler retired in 2001. She established the Ann Hertzler Endowment for Children’s Cookbooks and Nutrition at the Virginia Tech University Libraries.
