Colorado State University Scientist Honored by the Mongolian Government

Maria_horizontalMaria Fernandez-Gimenez, a professor in the department of forest and rangeland stewardship at Colorado State University, has won the Honorable Champion of Agriculture and Food Industry in Mongolia Award. The honor is the highest award of its kind given by the government of Mongolia. Professor Fernandez-Gimenez was honored for her 20-plus years of research on Mongolian land-use policy and for mentoring Mongolian graduate students at Colorado State University.

Dr. Fernandez-Gimenez is a graduate of Yale University. She holds a master’s degree in range management and a Ph.D. in wildland resource science from the University of California at Berkeley. The research for her doctoral dissertation was conducted in Mongolia.

Professor Fernandez-Gimenez, who has been on the faculty at Colorado State since 2003, also recently received the Outstanding Achievement Award from the Society for Range Management at its annual convention in Orlando, Florida.
