University of Delaware Sued by Former Student Who Was Sexually Assaulted

DelawareA former student athlete at the University of Delaware has filed a lawsuit in federal court charging that the university did not fulfill its legal obligations to her following a sexual assault.

The woman was allegedly raped by another student athlete who, according to the lawsuit had committed other sexual assaults. The victim was also infected with a sexually transmitted disease. When she reported the incident, the lawsuit claims she was not informed of her rights, was not provided with services, was not protected against harassment from the accused rapist, and was encouraged to take medical leave. According to the lawsuit, the assault was not reported to police and no campus investigation was conducted.
