Two Women Appointed to Serve as Deans at Leading Southern Universities

lisa_garvin_secLisa Garvin was named acting dean of the chapel and religious life at Emory University in Atlanta. She has been serving as associate dean. On February 7, she will take over the duties of the office when the current dean, Susan Henry-Crowe, steps downs to become general secretary of the General Board of Church and Society of the United Methodist Church.

Rev. Garvin was named associate dean in 2012. Previously, she served for four years as the director of ministerial services for the Mississippi Conference of the United Methodist Church. She is the former chaplain of Millsaps College in Jackson, Mississippi, and was coordinator of continuing education at the University of Southern Mississippi. Rev. Garvin is a graduate of Millsaps College and holds a master of divinity degree from Emory University.

susan-weeksSusan Weeks was named acting dean of the Harris College of Nursing and Health Sciences at Texas Christian University in Fort Worth. Dr. Weeks has been serving as associate dean for external affairs.

Dr. Weeks is a graduate of William Jewell College in Liberty, Missouri. She holds a master’s degree from Texas Woman’s University and a doctor of nursing practice degree from Texas Christian University.
