Grants or Gifts Relating to Women in Higher Education

Here is this week’s news of grants and gifts that may be of particular interest to women in higher education.

Amherst College, the highly rated liberal arts educational institution in Massachusetts, received a three-year, $223,200 grant from the Henry Luce Foundation to support the college’s summer science research program for women. Each year, 24 undergraduate students will participate in research projects and travel to professional conferences to present their results. The grant program will be under the direction of Tanya Leise, an associate professor of mathematics at the college.

Scripps College, the highly rated liberal arts educational institution for women in Claremont, California, received a three-year, $450,000 grant from the National Science Foundation for a research project on chromosome structure and gene expression. The grant program will be under the direction of Jennifer Armstrong, an associate professor of biology. Dr. Armstrong is a graduate of New Mexico State University and earned a Ph.D. in biology at the University of California, San Diego.
