College President Takes on a Less Demanding Role

president_murrayAnn Marie Murray is retiring this month as president of Herkimer County Community College in New York after serving in the post for five and a half years. But President Murray is not leaving higher education. She has accepted a post in academic program development in the provost’s office of the University at Albany of the State University of New York system. Dr. Murray believes that the new post will allow her to spend more time with her family than was possible when she was serving as a college president.

Before being named president of Herkimer County Community College, Dr. Murray served as vice president for academic affairs at Broome Community College. Earlier she taught mathematics and was dean of business and engineering and industrial technologies at Hudson Valley Community College.

Dr. Murray is a graduate of Mount Saint Mary College in Newburgh, New York. She holds a master’s degree and a doctorate in curriculum and instruction from the University at Albany.
