The First Woman to Receive a Ph.D. From Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University

carolina-lenz-anderson-200In 2010, Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University in Daytona Beach, Florida, enrolled its first doctoral students. Students can pursue a Ph.D. in either aviation or engineering physics. This month eight students will become the first doctoral degree recipients from the university. One of the eight students receiving a Ph.D. is a woman.

Carolina Anderson has earned a Ph.D. in aviation. The degree program is the first of its kind in the nation. Students can concentrate on aviation safety, operations, or interdisciplinary studies.

Anderson is an assistant professor of aeronautical science at Embry-Riddle. She has been a flight instructor at the university since 2000. Her dissertation studied the effects of aircraft certification rules on general aviation accidents.
