Five Women Appointed to Dean Positons

coltmanHeather Coltman was named dean of the Dorothy F. Schmidt College of Arts and Letters at Florida Atlantic University in Boca Raton. She has been serving as interim dean since May 2011. She formerly served as chair of the department of music at the university. She previously taught at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte, the Austin Chamber Music Center, and the Birmingham-Southern Conservatory.

Dr. Coltman is a graduate of the College-Conservatory of Music in Cincinnati. She holds a master’s degree from the Mannes College of Music in New York and a doctorate from the University of Texas.

cnevada01Nevada Winrow was appointed dean of special projects in the division of academic affairs at Baltimore City Community College. She was formerly the interim director of assessment in the division of academic affairs at Lincoln University in Pennsylvania.

Dr. Winrow earned a master’s degree and a Ph.D. in neuropsychology from Howard University in Washington, D.C., and completed two post-doctoral fellowships at Johns Hopkins School of Medicine.

Siminoff_LauraLaura Siminoff was named dean of the College of Health Professionals and Social Work at Temple University in Philadelphia. Her appointment is effective on March 1. Currently, Dr. Siminoff is a professor and founding chair of the department of social and behavioral health at the School of Medicine of Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond. She previously taught at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland and the University of Pittsburgh.

Dr. Siminoff is a graduate of McGill University in Montreal. She holds a master’s degree in anthropology from the University of New Brunswick and a Ph.D. in public health from Johns Hopkins University.

MelissaHarwood-RomMelissa Harwood-Rom was promoted to dean of students at the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville. She was the senior associate dean of students. Harwood-Rom joined the staff at the university in 1989 as the academic counselor for women’s athletics. In 2002, she was appointed associate director of women’s athletics.

Harwood-Rom is a graduate of the University of Arkansas. She holds a master of fine arts degree in creative writing from Oklahoma State University and a master’s degree in agricultural economics from Washington State University.

Syracuse University School of Education headshotsJoanna O. Masingila was named interim dean of the School of Education at Syracuse University in New York. Dr. Masingila is a professor of mathematics and the Meredith Professor for Teaching Excellence at the university. She will begin her new role on January 31.

Professor Masingila is graduate of Goshen College in Indiana. She holds a master’s degree from Indiana University-Purdue University in Indianapolis and a doctorate in mathematics education from Indiana University in Bloomington.
