Cornell University in Ithaca, New York, has announced the hiring of 18 women to its faculty.
Catherine M. Appert is an assistant professor of music. She was a lecturer at the University of Virginia. Dr. Appert is a graduate of Rutgers University, where she majored in piano performance. She holds a master’s degree and a Ph.D. in ethnomusicology from the University of California at Los Angeles.
Andrea Bachner was hired as an assistant professor of comparative literature. She was an assistant professor of comparative literature and Asian studies at Pennsylvania State University. Dr. Bachner holds a master’s degree from Ludwig-Maximilians University in Munich, Germany, and a second master’s degree and a Ph.D. in comparative literature from Harvard University.
Panle Jia Barwick was appointed associate professor of economics. She served on the economics faculty at MIT from 2006 to 2013. Dr. Barwick is a graduate of Fudan University in China. She holds a master’s degree from Tufts University and a Ph.D. in economics from Yale University.
Eve De Rosa is a new associate professor of human development in the College of Human Ecology. She was an associate professor of psychology at the University of Toronto from 2009 to 2013. Dr. De Rosa is a graduate of Vassar College in Poughkeepsie, New York, where she double majored in biology and psychology. She earned a Ph.D. in experimental psychology from Harvard University.
Arnika Fuhrman was appointed assistant professor of Southeast Asian studies. She was conducting postdoctoral research at the University of Hong Kong. Dr. Fuhrman holds a master’s degree and a Ph.D. in South Asian languages and civilizations from the University of Hamburg in Germany.
Tatiana Homonoff is an assistant professor in the department of policy analysis and management. She recently completed her Ph.D. in economics at Princeton University. Dr. Homonoff is a graduate of Brown University in Providence, Rhode Island, where she majored in applied mathematics and economics. She also holds a master’s degree in economics from Princeton University.
Heather Jay Huson was hired as an assistant professor of dairy cattle genetics. She previously worked for the U.S. Department of Agriculture and the National Institutes of Health. Dr. Huson is a graduate of Cornell University and holds a Ph.D. in molecular genetics from the University of Alaska at Fairbanks.
Katie Kelly was named assistant professor of biomedical science in the College of Veterinary Medicine. She has been serving as a postdoctoral fellow at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore. Dr. Kelley is a graduate of Towson University in Maryland and the School of Veterinary Medicine at North Carolina State University. She also holds a Ph.D. in pathobiology from Johns Hopkins University.
Katie Keranen is an assistant professor of seismology and geophysics. She was an assistant professor of geology and geophysics at the University of Oklahoma. Dr. Keranen is a graduate of Michigan Technological University. She holds a master’s degree and a Ph.D. in geophysics from Stanford University.
Oneka LaBennett is an associate professor of Africana studies. She was an associate professor and director of the American studies program at Fordham University in The Bronx, New York. She also taught at the College of the Holy Cross in Worcester, Massachusetts. Dr. LaBennett is a graduate of Wesleyan University in Middletown, Connecticut. She holds a Ph.D. in social anthropology from Harvard University.
Kathryn LaTour was named associate professor of services marketing in the College of Hotel Administration. She previously taught at the University of Nevada Las Vegas. Dr. LaTour is a graduate of the University of Colorado at Boulder. She holds a master’s degree from Boston University and a Ph.D. in marketing from the University of Iowa.
Kate Manne was appointed an assistant professor of philosophy. She was a junior fellow at the Harvard Society of Fellows form 2011 to 2013. Dr. Manne is a graduate of the University of Melbourne in Australia. She holds a Ph.D. in philosophy from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
Jamila Michener is a new assistant professor of government. From 2011 to 2013, she was a Robert Wood Johnson Scholar in Health Policy at the University of Michigan. Dr. Michener is a graduate of Princeton University. She holds a master’s degree and a Ph.D. in political science from the University of Chicago.
Jennifer Minner was named assistant professor of city and regional planning in the College of Architecture, Art, and Planning. She previously taught at the University of Texas at Austin. Dr. Minner is a graduate of the University of Washington, where she majored in anthropology. She holds a master’s degree from Portland State University in Oregon and a Ph.D. from the University of Texas at Austin.
Nozomi Nishimura was appointed an assistant professor of biomedical engineering. She has been conducting postdoctoral research at Cornell. Dr. Nishimura is a graduate of Harvard University. She earned a Ph.D. in physics at the University of California at San Diego.
Khena Swallow is an assistant professor of psychology. From 2007 to 2013, she was a research associate in the department of psychology at the University of Minnesota. Dr. Swallow is a graduate of the University of Utah, where she majored in psychology and sociology. She holds a master’s degree and a Ph.D. in cognitive neuroscience from Washington University in St. Louis.
Gerlinde van de Walle was named assistant professor of viral pathogenesis in the College of Veterinary Medicine. She was an assistant professor in stem cell biology at Ghent University in Belgium. Dr. Ghent holds a doctorate in veterinary medicine and a Ph.D. in veterinary virology from Ghent University.
Melissa Warden was appointed the Miriam M. Salpeter Fellow and an assistant professor of neurobiology and behavior. She was a postdoctoral fellow in the department of bioengineering at Stanford University. Dr. Warden is a graduate of Princeton University and holds a Ph.D. in systems neuroscience from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
