University of Connecticut Acquires the Papers of Magdalena Gomez

magdalena-Gomez1The Archives and Special Collections unit in the Thomas J. Dodd Research Center at the University of Connecticut has announced that it has acquired the papers of writer Magdalena Gomez. Marisol Ramos, curator of the Latin American and Caribbean collections at the center, stated, “Magdalena Gomez can be considered the quintessential Renaissance woman: poet, playwright, performer, writer, and social activist. She is committed to Latina/o issues, and the rights of youth, women, and prisoners, as well as human rights as represented in her art, writings, and her performances.”

Gomez’s play, “Dancing in My Cockroach Killers,” was recently staged Off-Broadway in New York City by the Puerto Rican Traveling Theater and Pregones Theater. She is the co-editor of the book, Bullying: Replies, Rebuttals, Confessions, and Catharsis (Skyhorse Publishing, 2012) and the co-founder of Teatro V!da, a theater company in Springfield, Massachusetts.
