Record Enrollments of Women at the University of Texas School of Engineering

cockrellThe Cockrell School of Engineering at the University of Texas at Austin reports its highest level of women enrollments in its history. Of this fall’s entering class of 1,161 students, 29 percent are women. This is the highest percentage in the school’s history. Last year, women made up 26 percent of the entering class.

Also, there are 1,345 women among the school’s total enrollment of 5,614. Thus, women make up 24 percent of total enrollments. This also is an all-time record.

Berry_TriciaTricia Berry, director of the school’s Women in Engineering Program, states “Women problem-solve in a different way. Increasing the number of women in engineering education increases the diversity of thought and backgrounds brought to create solutions that will only further strengthen the engineering profession.”
