Pomona College Scholar Wins Book Award

kyla-tompkinsKyla Tompkins, an associate professor of English and gender and women’s studies at Pomona College in Claremont, California, received the Lora Romero First Book Publication Prize from the American Studies Association. Dr. Tompkins was honored for her book, Racial Indigestion: Eating Bodies in the Nineteenth Century (New York University Press, 2012).

Dr. Tompkins is a graduate of York University. She holds a master’s degree from the University of Toronto and a second master’s degree and a Ph.D. from Stanford University. Dr. Tompkins joined the faculty at Pomona College in 2004. She is a former food writer and restaurant critic.
