Rutgers Dean Accused of Bias Against Lesbians

Rutgers,_The_State_University_of_New_Jersey_logoA former public relations employees of Rutgers University in New Jersey has filed a lawsuit claiming that she was fired because she is a lesbian. The suit charges that Jacquelyn Litt, dean of the Douglass Residential College at Rutgers dismissed the plaintiff, Laura Frederico, because the dean felt that “women who had men behind them were stronger and better employees.”

Rutgers officials stand by the dean’s decision and stated that Frederico was fired because she failed to meet work deadlines.

Dean Litt joined Rutgers as dean in 2010. She also serves as a professor of women’s and gender studies at the university. She is a graduate of William Smith College and holds a master’s degree and a Ph.D. in sociology from the University of Pennsylvania.
