In Memoriam: Kathleen Lawler Row, 1947-2013

lawler-rowKathleen Lawler Row, a former professor of psychology at the University of Tennessee at Knoxville and former chair of the psychology department at East Carolina University, died earlier this month in Greenville, North Carolina. She was 66 years old and had been suffering from cancer.

A native of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Dr. Row graduate from high school in Oklahoma. She attended Grinnell College in Iowa but earned her bachelor’s degree at Oklahoma City University. She went on to earn a master’s degree at the University of Iowa and a doctorate at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

Professor Row taught at the University of Tennessee for 30 years before leaving in 2006 to chair the psychology department at East Carolina University. There she established a new program in health psychology. She retired from teaching in 2012. East Carolina University’s graduate research award has been renamed in her honor.
