Emory University Professor to Lead the Association for Feminist Anthropology

Carla Freeman, the Winship Distinguished Research Professor of Women’s, Gender, and Sexuality Studies at Emory University in Atlanta, has been chosen president-elect of the Association for Feminist Anthropology. Beginning this November, she will serve for two years as president-elect of the association. In 2015, she will begin a two-year term as president. The organization, founded in 1988 in Phoenix, is headquartered in Arlington, Virginia.

Professor Freeman is a graduate of Bryn Mawr College in Pennsylvania. She earned a Ph.D. in anthropology at Temple University in Philadelphia. At Emory, Dr. Freeman is also affiliated with the department of anthropology and Latin American and Caribbean studies. She is the author of High Tech and High Heels in the Global Economy: Women, Work, and Pink Collar Identities in the Caribbean (Duke University Press, 2000).
