One Woman Among the New Class of 13 Simons Investigators

The Simons Foundation recently announced this year’s class of Simons Investigators in Mathematics, Physics, and Computer Science. The 13 Simons Investigators receive $100,000 each year for the next five years for their research. Their academic departments receive $10,000 per year to support their research.
This year, only one of the 13 Simons Investigators is a woman. Maryam Mirzakhani is a professor of mathematics at Stanford University. She has served on the Stanford faculty since 2008. Dr. Mirzakhani is a graduate of the Sharif University of Technology in Tehran, Iran. She earned a Ph.D. from Harvard University.
