In Memoriam: Charlotte Elizabeth Williams Conable, 1929-2003

ConableCharlotte Conable, author and women’s studies professional, died on July 19 at a nursing home in Sarasota, Florida. She was 83 years old and had been suffering from cancer.

A native of Buffalo, Conable was a graduate of Cornell University where she was president of the Delta Gamma sorority and her graduating class. She later earned a master’s degree in women’s studies from George Washington University.

The wife of a congressman from New York State, Conable served as the public policy project coordinator for the Women’s Studies Program and Policy Center at George Washington University. She was the author of Women at Cornell: The Myth of Equal Education (Cornell University Press, 1977).

Conable was a member of the board of directors of the National Women’s Hall of Fame and chair of the national advisory committee for the Women’s Rights National Historical Park in Seneca Falls, New York.
