Title IX Complaint Filed Against the University of Southern California

usc-thumbThe University of Southern California in Los Angeles is the latest among a considerable group of higher educational institutions that are subjects of complaints filed with the U.S. Department of Education. The complaint was filed by the Student Coalition Against Rape (SCAR), a group that was founded earlier this year.

Co-founder Tucker Reed, who is now the author of children’s books, states that she was raped by her boyfriend of two weeks in December 2010, when she was a student at the university. Reed openly blogged about the incident and identified the perpetrator. She received comments from other students who claimed that the university had not properly responded to their claims of sexual assault. SCAR filed the complained with the Department of Education when Reed was informed that the university would not take any action regarding the incident.
