The First Woman President of the American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine

Hannafin_bioJo A. Hannafin was installed as the 42nd president of the American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine at the association’s annual meeting in Chicago this past weekend. She is the first woman to hold the post.

Dr. Hannafin is director of orthopedic research at the Hospital for Special Surgery in New York City and a professor of orthopedic surgery at Weill Cornell Medical College. She also serves as the head team physician for the New York Liberty of the Women’s National Basketball Association.

Dr. Hannafin is a graduate of Brown University. She earned a medical degree and a Ph.D. in biophysics and physiology from the Albert Einstein College of Medicine of Yeshiva University in The Bronx, New York.
