Ohio State University Graduate Student Wins Photojournalism Award for Work on Domestic Violence

Sara Lewkowicz, a graduate student at the School of Visual Communication at Ohio State University, has been selected to receive the international Ville de Perpignan Remi Ochlik award from the city of Perpignan in France. The city will host the International Festival of Photojournalism in September, at which Lewkowicz will be presented with the award. The award, which comes with a prize of 8,000 euros, was previously called the Young Reporters Award but was changed to honor Remi Ochlik, a photojournalist who was killed while working in Syria.

Lewkowicz is being honored for her work on domestic violence. Her exhibition “Shane and Maggie,” which documents a woman’s experiences with domestic violence, will be featured at the International Festival of Photojournalism this fall.

Lewkowicz is a graduate of  the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
