In Memoriam: Jacqueline Fowler Byers, 1957-2013

ByersJJacqueline Fowler Byers, a former professor of nursing at the University of Central Florida, has died from complications associated with a chronic illness. She was 56 years old.

Dr. Byers served on the faculty at the University of Central Florida from 1998 to 2012. Earlier in her career she was director of research at Orlando Health and held clinical positions at Vanderbilt University Hospital and Duke University Hospital. She also served as a clinical nurse for the U.S. Army in Germany. She was co-editor of the textbook, Patient Safety: Principles and Practice (Springer, 2004).

Dr. Byers was a graduate of Duke University. She held a master’s degree from Vanderbilt University and a Ph.D. in nursing from the University of Florida.
