Emory University Historian Wins Book Award

a-eckert150Astrid M. Eckert, an associate professor of history at Emory University in Atlanta, has won the 2013 Waldo Gifford Leland Award from the Society of American Archivists. The award is given for “writing of superior excellence and usefulness in the field of archival history, theory and practice.”

Professor Eckert was honored for her book The Struggle for the Files: The Western Allies and the Return of German Archives After the Second World War (Cambridge University Press, 2012).

Dr. Eckert holds a master’s degree from the University of Michigan and a second master’s degree and a Ph.D. from the Free University of Berlin in Germany.
