Case Western Reserve University Economist Appointed to Key Government Post

helper-featSusan Helper, the Frank Tracy Carlton Professor of Economics at the Weatherhead School of Management at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, has been appointed by President Obama as the chief economist for the U.S. Department of Commerce. She has just completed a one-year term as senior economist for the President’s Council of Economic Advisers.

Professor Helper has been on the faculty at Case Western Reserve since 1990. Previously, she taught at Boston University. Dr. Helper is a research associate for the National Bureau of Economic Research and sits on the editorial board of the Strategic Management Journal.

Professor Helper is a graduate of Oberlin College in Ohio. She earned a Ph.D. in economics at Harvard University.
