Rosalind Barnett of Brandeis University Recognized for a Lifetime of Scholarship on Gender Equality

barnett220Rosalind Barnett, who has served since 1996 as a senior scientist at the Women’s Studies Research Center at Brandeis University in Waltham, Massachusetts, was honored recently in New York City for her lifetime of work relating to gender equality by the Families and Work Institute. Dr. Barnett received the Work Life Legacy Award from the organization.

Dr. Barnett’s, who is also a research professor at the Graduate School of Social Work at Boston College, is an expert on how gender stereotypes affect women in every stage of life in school, work, and the home. She has published eight books with her most recent work (co-authored by Caryl Rivers), entitled The Truth About Girls and Boys: Challenging Toxic Stereotypes About Our Children (Columbia University Press, 2011). This October, Barnett and Rivers will publish The New Soft War on Women: How the Myth of Female Ascendance Is Hurting Women, Men-and Our Economy (Tarcher, 2013).

Dr. Barnett is a graduate of Queens College of the City University of New York system. She holds a master’s degree and a Ph.D. in clinical psychology from Harvard University.
