Merit Janow to Lead Columbia’s School of International and Public Affairs

janow210On July 1, Merit E. Janow will become dean of the School of International and Public Affairs at Columbia University in New York City. She is a professor in the practice of international economic law and international affairs at the school. She also teaches courses in international trade law at Columbia Law School.

From 2003 to 2007, Professor Janow was a member of the Appellate Body of the World Trade Organization in Geneva. She was the first woman to serve on the panel.

Professor Janow, who is fluent in Japanese, is a graduate of the University of Michigan and the Columbia Law School. She is the coauthor of The WTO: Governance, Dispute Settlement & Developing Countries (Juris Publishing, 2008) and The Competition: Dealing with Japan (Praeger Publishers, 1985).
