In Memoriam: Angela Laird Brenton, 1953-2013

AngelaBrentonAngi Brenton, provost and vice chancellor for academic affairs at Western Carolina University in Cullowhee, North Carolina, died earlier this month after a battle with pancreatic cancer. She was 60 years old.

Dr. Brenton had served as provost since August. Previously, she was dean of the College of Professional Studies at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock. She served in that post from 2001 to 2012. Earlier in her career she was dean of the Graduate School and associate provost for research at Abilene Christian University and chair of the department of communications and mass media at Southwest Missouri State University.

Dr. Brenton was a graduate of Oklahoma Christian College. She held a master’s degree in communication from the University of Oklahoma and a Ph.D. in communication studies from the University of Kansas.
