Maryann Manning to Lead the International Reading Association

maryann_manningMaryann Manning, distinguished professor emerita in the department of curriculum and instruction at the University of Alabama Birmingham, has been elected as executive vice president of the International Reading Association. With this appointment, Dr. Manning will eventually take over as president of the association, an international organization with more than 80,000 members that promotes worldwide literacy.

Dr. Manning joined the faculty at the University of Alabama Birmingham in 1972. She is the author or co-author of 10 books, including her latest collaboration Creating the Best Literacy Block Ever: A Framework for Successfully Managing, Teaching, and Assessing in an Extended Literacy Block (Scholastic Teaching Resources, 2009)

Professor Manning earned her bachelor’s degree from the University of South Dakota in 1958, her master’s degree from Wayne State University in 1964 and her doctorate from the University of Nebraska in 1971.
