Boston University School of Medicine Promotes Five Women to Full Professor

Logo_boston_univThe Boston University School of Medicine has promoted 14 faculty members to the rank of full professor. Five to the 14 promotions went to women.

Dr.-BarnesLinda Barnes was promoted to full professor of family medicine at the medical school. She is a medical anthropologist and a scholar on world religions. She is the director of the medical school’s Boston Healing Landscape Project. She is co-editor of the book Religion and Healing in America (Oxford University Press, 2005).

Professor Barnes is a graduate of Smith College in Northampton, Massachusetts. She earned a master’s degree in theological studies at Harvard Divinity School and a master’s degree and a Ph.D. in comparative religion at Harvard University.

hatchElizabeth Hatch was named a full professor of epidemiology in the School of Public Health. Her research concentrates on prenatal exposures to the synthetic hormone DES and its long-term health effects.

Professor Hatch holds a master’s degree from the Harvard School of Public Health and a Ph.D. from Yale University.

HylekElaine Hylek was promoted to professor of medicine. She is an expert in the treatment and prevention of thromboembolic disease.

Professor Hylek earned her medical degree at the University of Pittsburgh.

rosenAmy Rosen was appointed professor of surgery. Dr. Rosen developed a psychiatric risk-adjustment measure specifically for veterans with mental health or substance abuse disorders. She is a senior research scientist at the Center for Organization, Leadership, and Management Research at the Veterans Administration.

Dr. Rosen holds a bachelor’s degree in political science and a master of social work degree from Boston University. She earned a Ph.D. in sociology at the University of Maryland.

zhdanovaIrina Zhdanova was promoted to professor of anatomy and neurobiology. She studies the role of the circadian system in development and aging.

Dr. Zhdanova earned her medical degree at the Leningrad Medical Institute in Russia. She holds a Ph.D. in the physiology of behavior from the Institute of Experimental Medicine in St. Petersburg, Russia.
