Four Women Named Distinguished University Professors at Georgia State

Georgia_State_University_Coat_of_Arms_LogoGeorgia State University in Atlanta has designated 12 faculty members as Distinguished University Professors. Georgia State created the Distinguished University Professor this year to recognize professors who have track records of exemplary scholarship in their respective fields of study, and whose research and teaching trajectories demonstrate a commitment to sustained high levels of academic achievement. The appointments have the potential to serve as stepping-stones to future appointments as Regents Professors, the highest academic appointment in the University System of Georgia.

Of the 12 faculty members named Distinguished University Professors, four are women.

Lisa Armistead is a professor and chair of the department of psychology. Her research focuses on the role of families in the lives of children and adolescents. Professor Armistead holds a Ph.D. from the University of Georgia.

Jennifer L. McCoy is a professor of political science. She has been on the Georgia State faculty since 1994. Dr. McCoy is a graduate of Oklahoma State University and holds a Ph.D. in political science from the University of Minnesota.

Rose Sevcik is a professor of psychology. her research concentrates on the development of symbolic processes, specifically oral and written language development. She holds a Ph.D. from Georgia State University.

Jenny Wang is a professor of chemistry. Professor Wang’s laboratory focuses on the chemical, biological, material and environmental role of calcium and calcium binding proteins. She holds a Ph.D. from Florida State University.
