State Department Official Joins Georgetown University

Amb_Melanne_Verveer_150_1Melanne Verveer, who recently left her post as ambassador-at-large for women’s issues at the U.S. State Department, was appointed director of the Institute on Women, Peace, and Security at Georgetown University in Washington, D.C. Since being named ambassador-at-large in 2009, Verveer has visited more than 60 countries promoting women’s equality.

Verveer worked as a top aide on the 2008 presidential campaign of Hillary Clinton and from 2000 to 2009 was CEO of Vital Voices Global Partnership, a non-governmental organization that identifies, trains, and empowers emerging women leaders and social entrepreneurs around the globe.

Verveer is a native of Pottsville, Pennsylvania. She holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Georgetown University.
