New Grants or Gifts Relating to Women in Higher Education

money_bag_clip_art_23184Here is this week’s news of grants and gifts that may be of particular interest to women in higher education.

The University of Delaware received a federal grant under the Violence Against Women Act to provide intimate partner violence counseling for university students. The university has contracted with Child Inc., a nonprofit organization, to hold group sessions on Wednesday evenings for eight weeks this semester. In addition, a licensed clinical social worker will be on campus 12 hours each week for individual counseling sessions.

Scripps College, the highly rated liberal arts institution for women in Claremont, California, received a $5.3 million pledge from Nancy Katayama, a 1977 graduate of the college and current member of the board of trustees. The pledge includes $1 million dollars for the addition of faculty offices for the Bette Cree Edward Humanities Building on the Scripps College campus. The pledge includes immediate donations and estate commitments.
