Bowdoin College Grants Tenure to Three Women

bowdoin_college_sealBowdoin College, the highly rated liberal arts educational institution in Brunswick, Maine, has announced the promotion of four scholars to associate professor. Each of the four were granted tenure. Three of the four scholars who were promoted and granted tenure are women.

Sarah-Conly128Sarah Conly is an associate professor of philosophy. She is the author of Against Autonomy: Justifying Coercive Paternalism (Cambridge University Press, 2012).

Dr. Conly is a graduate of Princeton University. She earned a master’s degree and a Ph.D. in philosophy at Cornell University.

Doris-Santoro128Doris Santoro was promoted to associate professor of education. Her research focuses on teacher experiences and teacher motivation.

Dr. Santoro is a graduate of the University of Rochester. She earned an educational doctorate at Columbia University.

Jill-Smith128Jill Smith is an associate professor of German. Her research concerns 19th- and early 20th-century German literature, intellectual history, and culture. She is the author of the forthcoming book, Berlin Coquette: Prostitution, New Womanhood and Desire in the German Capital (Cornell University Press).

Dr. Smith is a graduate of Amherst College. She earned a master’s degree and a Ph.D. at Indiana University.
