Teenage Woman Enters Civil Engineering Doctoral Program at Arizona State

Lauren McBurnett, who is afflicted with dyslexia, is enrolled in the civil engineering doctoral program at Arizona State University. She is 18 years old and recently received her bachelor’s degree at the university.
McBurnett was home schooled and then at age 13 entered the high school/college enrollment program at Chandler-Gilbert Community College. At age 16, she transferred to Arizona State to complete her undergraduate degree. While enrolled as an undergraduate she participated in the Engineers Without Borders program and traveled to Kenya to implement a rain water collection system for a local village.
If all goes as planned, McBurnett will earn a Ph.D. in civil engineering at the age of 22.
